Volunteers with the Trauma Intervention Program of Southern Nevada and a Metro Police officer comfort family members Monday after a teen accidentally shot and killed his sister in an apartment near 22nd Street and Searles Avenue. Magda Barragan, a fourth grader at Sandy Miller Elementary School, does homework as she waits for her mother to pick her up at Earl Elementary School as Trauma Intervention Program volunteer Joan Miller waits with her. Barragan was one of 45 students on a school bus involved in an accident with a motorcycle Monday in which the motorcyclist was killed. Students were brought to Earl Elementary after the accident. Metro officer Darren Martine, a six-year veteran, was honored as an "angel" by the Southern Nevada chapter of the Trauma Intervention Program on Thursday. Martine was recognized for his efforts comforting a mother after her son committed suicide.
